Welcome to Chestnut Class
We are a very friendly class, with big smiles and great personalities!
We do lots of great activities inside and outside the classroom with our teacher Miss Lockhart and our amazing HLTA Mrs Sutton. On a Wednesday we are taught PE by Mrs Bamber.
We would expect to be reading at home every day with a loved one so that we can develop a love of reading and have our books changes regularly. We also have our own mini library where we can enjoy books, a loyalty scheme for our reading and also a school wide "Book Bingo" that we enjoy competing in.
We really enjoy our learning and love to deepen our understanding through real life contexts. Our class pets motivate our learning and we enjoy the responsibility of looking after these creatures.
If you would like to offer support in our class with one of our topic lessons or help us with our reading and writing, please speak to Miss Lockhart, we would love it if you could come and help us to reach our targets.
We have listened!
Thank you to everyone who managed to come in for Parents' Evening meetings in March. We have listened to your feedback and understand that in order for the child in your care to feel more supported, that you would like further guidance on how you can support at home.
Phonics Phase 3 - Children on Phase 3 will be starting to bring paper copies of their class book home to read. Please ensure they have the time carved out to sit and read this properly to a loved one and answer the comprehension questions on each page.
Phonics Phase 5 - Children on phase 5 will be bringing home revision packs to help equip them for their phonics screening.
Reading - Please ensure your child has time to read with a loved one at least three times a week.
Maths - All children have a Times Table Rockstars login and have all been given the opportunity to explore this platform at school. We strongly encourage children to log into their profile and play the game at home.
Handwriting - We are encouraging the children to practise their handwriting daily. All children are trained well on using the bubble writing scaffold and we encourage them to practise their tricky words using the bubbles to form their letters.
Spellings - We are encouraging the children to practise the spelling of tricky words by using the handwriting scaffold - bubble writing. Children can be sent home with bubble writing sheets.
