As role models for younger children, Redwoods take their whole school responsibilities seriously; they are expected to model excellent behaviour, a positive attitude towards school and learning, and take pride in their work at all times.
Learning in Redwoods is engaging and challenging. Redwoods children are exposed to a variety of teaching styles which ensure all children are excited and enthused in their learning, make the maximum possible progress while also developing independence.
Mr Abraham teaches Redwoods.
PE lessons are every Thursday with Mrs Bamber (PE teacher). Â
Please ensure that PEÂ kit is worn to school on these days.
Homework is designed to encourage independence. Our expectations are as follows:
- Reading on a daily basis (minimum of 15 minutes per day)
- Spellings taken from the Y5/6 and/or Y3/4 list (follow links below)
- Times Tables practice - this should include at least 15 x 1 minute sessions on TT Rock Stars (children all have their unique user ID and password which can be used to access from home)
- Project learning themed around our termly topic where the children will be able to choose from a range of activities designed to take their learning out of the classroom.

Redwoods Parent Update - 15th December 2025
We are bringing to a close a busy and productive term of learning in the Redwoods class, full of festive cheer. One of the standout activities was creating and displaying our mermaid/merman lanterns for the parade last Wednesday, which was a wonderful and colourful evening. We also had a fabulous time at Sherborne House last Friday as we explored a range of technology to sample some of the future development plans in Newton Abbot, including a VR ride on Santa’s sleigh.
In English, we are writing poems using ideas from ‘I Am Cat’ by Jackie Morris and a range of descriptive and figurative language. In maths, we are finishing our unit on multiplication and division, where we have learned a variety of written and mental strategies. In geography, we have learned about using Ordnance Survey maps to measure distances and locate human and physical features in Devon. In computing, we used Scratch to design our own computer games using variables and conditions. In D.T., we are using pneumatics to create a talking box, and in science we learned the difference between mass and weight using force meters.
Well done to our Star of the Week, George, who has shown terrific independence throughout his learning.
Have a great week,
Mr. Abraham
