Science
At Bearnes Voluntary Primary School, we all value science.

A high quality science education provides the foundations for understanding the world we live in through the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Science is at the forefront of our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity. We believe that all pupils should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, skills and uses of science. Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils should be encouraged to recognise the power of scientific knowledge and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. Pupils should be enlightened as to how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict outcomes and the way things behave and analyse causation.

At Bearnes Voluntary Primary School, we are SCIENTISTS. We have….

• The ability to think independently and raise questions about working scientifically and the knowledge and skills that it brings.
• Confidence and competence in the full range of practical skills, taking the initiative in, for example, planning and carrying out scientific investigations.
• A broad and developed scientific knowledge and understanding, which is demonstrated both verbally and in written format when solving problems and reporting scientific findings.
• High levels of questioning and imagination/innovation when applying scientific knowledge and skills. • The ability to undertake practical work in a variety of contexts, including fieldwork.
• A burning desire and passion for science and its application in the past, present and future.
